Great kitchen remodeling furniture design

posted by Kitchen & Bathroom Designer

 kitchen-design-inspiration-1.jpg

Picking the right color might be the most important decision you make when redesigning a kitchen because it sets the tone for the room. Picking the right color may mean the difference between a great kitchen design idea that will give you pleasure for years to come or a poorly accentuated kitchen that never looks quite right. Darker shades of red will create a sense of warmth. Red will also act to stimulate and energize so it can be a very exciting and vibrant color for a kitchen. Afterall, the kitchen is an exciting place where many wonderful foods are created. Brighter reds may counterbalance neutral colors and add lexcitement to the kitchen.

Great kitchen remodeling design takes the harmonization of kitchen design ideas, the assortment of kitchen cabinets, the arrangement of contractors and other professionals, and lastly, the conclusion of exceptional workmanship to create the kitchen of your dreams.

5 Must Haves For Country Kitchen Decorating

posted by Kitchen & Bathroom Designer

5 Must Haves For Country Kitchen Decorating,Country Kitchen,Kitchen Decorating,Furniture, kitchen decorating ideas

For people who are looking to have a warm earthy feeling to their kitchen along with the simplicity of nature then country kitchen decorating theme is the way to go. Today the country kitchen look has become one of the more popular interior decorating designs being used at is provides an overall welcoming and friendly feeling to a very important area of the home.

However if you are considering to decorate your kitchen in a country style then you will also need to consider whether this will be limited to the kitchen or will spread in to other areas of your home. Plus you will need to look at your budget if you want to be able to carry out such a style of decoration to your kitchen. Below are a number of decorating ideas that you could use if you want to produce a country style kitchen in your home.

    1. Colors

For any country style kitchen the colors you use should be fresh, clean and warm and the ideal colors to achieve this are browns, yellows, greens, whites, pinks and the various different shades in between.

    2. Accents

By adding just a few accents such as fruit, flowers, vegetables and plants will also help to increase the feel of a country kitchen that you are trying to achieve.

    3. Furniture

It is preferable that you use lighter woods or wicker furniture in your country style kitchen design and it is wise if they can be upholstered in either gingham or floral type patterns. If you want to save money then instead of buying new furniture why not just make slip covers for the furniture you already have.

    4. Flooring

The preferred kind of flooring for a country kitchen should be made from a natural material such as wood, tile or flagstones. However if these will not be covered in the budget you have then the same look can be achieved using wall to wall carpeting or laminate flooring instead. However, it is important that the flooring you use is the right sort of colour (any light shade). You could even use hooked or braided rugs instead in order to add an authentic look to the finished room.

    5. Accessories

The final thing you need to consider when doing a country kitchen decorating design is what kind of accessories will work best and that the family will enjoy looking at. Why no put some family photos in to wooden frames, a painted rustic scene is a good idea, whilst plants, candles and even lace curtains can provide you with a finish that are all important to finish off your country style kitchen.

It is important that when designing your country style kitchen is to have an open mind and only include those features which appeal to you the most.

How to Use Recycled Kitchen Cabinets

posted by Kitchen & Bathroom Designer

    Canada Kitchen Cabinets

During a kitchen remodel, you may find you have old cabinets that can still function, but not in your fresh kitchen. You don’t have to pay for disposal or dump them at the curb. You can recycle the old cabinets to create additional storage space in another area of your house or treat them as a tax deductible donation.

      Make a Footstool

    1. Step 1

Remove the door and place casters on the four front corners of the cabinet, where the door corners used to rest.

    2. Step 2

Turn the cabinet over so it rests on the casters.

    3. Step 3

Cover the top with foam and fabric that matches your room decor. Use a staple gun to attach.

    4. Step 4

Place your new footstool in a living room, family room or bedroom.

      Create a Storage Seat

    5. Step 1

Select a spot, indoors or out, that would benefit from a seat and hidden storage. A window seat for reading, a toy chest, an outdoor games cabinet or pool equipment cupboard are just a few of the possibilities.

    6. Step 2

Choose padding, foam and fabric appropriate for the storage seat resting place. For outdoor uses, choose a waterproof fabric.

    7. Step 3

Sand the cabinet if you plan on refinishing it to another color.

    8. Step 4

Paint or stain the cabinet and doors.

    9. Step 5

      Finish with polyurethane or varnish.

    10. Step 6

Use a staple gun to attach the foam, padding and fabric to the top of the cabinet. Make sure you leave room for the doors to swing open and closed.

    11. Step 7

Move the storage seat to its resting place.

      Add Storage to Other Rooms

    12. Step 1

Install your old cabinets in your garage, workshop or shed to provide storage for tools and projects.

    13. Step 2

Install cabinets in your utility room to store non-perishable foods or household chemicals.

    14. Step 3

Refinish cabinets and install new hardware to create matching end tables or nightstands.

    15. Step 4

Attach casters on the bottom of a cabinet and use in your garage or a room with a hard surface as a moveable storage container with a sturdy work surface.

    Things You’ll Need:

    • Hardware if you’ll be making end tables or nightstands
    • Paint, stain, waterproof sealant and sandpaper if you’ll be refinishing
    • Foam, padding and fabric if you’ll be recovering
    • Nails and hammer

How to Make Kitchen Cabinets Safe for Babies

    Kitchen Cabinets

A kitchen can be a dangerous place for a baby. Baby proofing kitchen cabinets and drawers can be easy and cheap if you use the right equipment.

    Step 1

    Traditional Baby Proof Locks

    Traditional Baby Proof Locks

We have all seen the traditional baby proofing products out there. There are hundreds of devices that proclaim they are absolutely baby proof. The truth of the matter is that while being baby proof they are adult proof as well. Many customers have trouble opening the devices or are required to deface their cabinets to install them properly.

  • Step 2

    Custom Cabinetry

    Custom Cabinetry

You may find that commercial baby proof locks aren’t designed to fit your cabinets at all. This is the case with custom cabinets or many of the high end models. Drilling through cabinet doors may not be an option if you don’t have the proper tools, or you are living in a rental unit.

  • Step 3

    Velcro

    Velcro

If you are looking for a more cost effective solution to baby proofing your environment you don’t need to look any further than Velcro. Velcro applied to kitchen cabinet doors and drawers can effectively lock a baby out while still allowing the adult to get in.

  • Step 4

    Fussy Baby

    Fussy Baby

I bought all the baby proofing products known to man when I was expecting my first child. What I found was that while I was holding my baby I was effectively locked out of everything. When a baby is fussy the last thing you want to do is wrestle with safety locks to retrieve an item you need. I was frustrated with the choices I had in keeping my baby and other children safe.

  • Step 5

    Stitch on Velcro

    Stitch on Velcro

Adding Velcro to your kitchen cabinets is the low cost solution you are looking for. Velcro is strong and durable and requires you to use force to open a door or drawer locked with it. While this will be an easy task for you it is impossible for a baby or even your older children. Using Velcro to baby proof your kitchen cabinets is a better solution to the many commercial baby proofing products out there. You can keep your baby and your older children safe with this cheap alternative to plastic locks and metal devices.

  • Step 6

    Industrial Strength Velcro

    Industrial Strength Velcro

Cut Velcro in pieces that are 2 inches by 1 inch. Use super glue to attach one side to the door and one side to the cabinet making sure your pieces are lined up correctly. Apply a set of Velcro to the top corner and bottom corner of your cabinets as well as the top and bottom edge. Use the same method on kitchen drawers, potato bins, or any other thing that a baby needs to be locked out of. Consider using Velcro to lock the tops of benches as well. This can at the very least keep a baby from getting his/her fingers smashed.

  • Step 7

    Velcro Strength

    Velcro Strength

Remember Velcro in the right situation can even hold the weight of an adult.

How to Paint Kitchen Cabinets to Create a Caribbean Decor

posted by Kitchen & Bathroom Designer

How to Paint Kitchen Cabinets to Create a Caribbean Decor,How to Paint,Paint Kitchen Cabinets,Create a Caribbean Decor,Caribbean color,Painting your kitchen cabinets,Caribbean décor, home improvement, doors and drawer,Reattach the doors and drawer fronts,Reattach the hardware

    PVC Kitchen Cabinets

Decorating with a Caribbean color scheme includes warm corals and cool shades of ocean blue. Banana yellow mixed with shades of peach, aqua, or sea green work together to make a light, airy space that is vibrant with color. Painting your kitchen cabinets to create a Caribbean décor can include any or all of these colors, depending on how color fearless you might be. Contrasting shades of blue or coral, darker for the cabinets and lighter for the doors, is one way to incorporate the Caribbean décor without creating a rainbow in your kitchen.

Painting Kitchen Cabinets in a Caribbean Decor

    1. Step 1

Choose the Caribbean color scheme that pleases you for your kitchen decor. A deep ocean blue for the cabinets and a lighter shade of blue for the doors creates a calm, cool kitchen. Combine sea foam green for the doors and deep coral for the cabinets for a bolder statement. Purchase paint and supplies from your local home improvement store. Select a clean area where you can spread out the doors and drawer fronts, either on a tarp or a covered table.

    2. Step 2

Remove the doors and drawer fronts from the cabinets; numbering the backs in sequence will help you when it’s time to reinstall the doors to their proper location. Remove all of the hardware from the cabinets, doors and drawer fronts. Organize the hardware so that you know which knob or handle goes where when it’s time to replace them. You might also consider purchasing new hardware for your Caribbean kitchen decor. Your local home improvement store will have a selection, or you could order cabinet hardware online. You have predrilled holes already in your cabinet doors and drawers, so purchase hardware that will fit the same way as your old knobs and handles.

    3. Step 3

Sand the cabinets, doors and drawer fronts lightly with a medium grade sandpaper. Your goal is to rough up the old finish enough to accept the new paint. Sand the back and the front of the doors. Clean the sanding residue with a damp cloth, careful to remove all of the debris.

    4. Step 4

Prime all of your surfaces and let it dry. Lightly sand the primed surfaces according to the directions on your brand of primer. This step may not be necessary, so read the directions.

    5. Step 5

Apply a light coat of your chosen paint color to the surfaces. Let it dry and apply a second coat as needed.

    6. Step 6

Reattach the doors and drawer fronts to the kitchen cabinets. Reattach the hardware.
