French kitchens

posted by Kitchen & Bathroom Designer

The french are famous for their stylish food and it’s therefore no surprise that many people want a french-style kitchen in their own home.

For a rustic design with timeless style, go French.

French kitchens are a mixture of country style rustic and traditional kitchen design which can be a difficult image to get right if you don’t know what you’re doing.

Here are a few tips to keep you on track:

  • The majority of french kitchens have a table which is used for both food preparation and sitting around to eat.
  • Cupboards, tables, chairs and any other furniture should be wooden and very simple designs. A french kitchen has no place for metallic objects, other than pots and pans.
  • A stone tiled floor immediately creates a french kitchen feel, but if you prefer something warmer there are alternatives. However, lino and similar products are not viable options if you want to remain authentic in your design.
  • You might consider painting the walls a warm colour and using stencils to create a Fromagerie feel. If you’d prefer to remain more neutral, white walls are perfectly fine and will work well against the wooden furniture. However, to avoid your kitchen walls looking sparce, you can buy metallic french wall signs which look great and are normally inexpensive.
  • Storage in a french kitchen is designed to be funcitional. Cooking utensils are normally on display and within easy reach for the convenience of the chef. Open shelving might be considered or hanging pots and pans overhead on carefully placed hooks.

French Style Kitchen Decorating Ideas

posted by Kitchen & Bathroom Designer
Kitchens are the heart of the home and it is important to have a beautiful and comfortable place to meet and greet as well as cook and serve meals. Including so many functions in one room can be difficult to design, but it is definitely doable. All you have to do is consider how to design your French style kitchen so that it complements your china dinnerware and your casual dinnerware. Once you have the basic style down and the color scheme then you will be much better off and more prepared to continue with your design plans. A good example for a French style kitchen is to have a plaque hand painted on tile with the word ?kitchen? painted in French. This will add a unique flair to the kitchen and will look nice hanging on a wall. In addition, you can buy French antiques to decorate the kitchen with and really pull off the design scheme. Of course, if you can?t afford real antiques you can buy replicas or other French inspired items that do fir in your budget.

An interesting idea is to paint the walls of your kitchen a bright, cheery color that reflects the colors in your dinnerware. Then, find some old French dishes, prints, or antiques or some of all of the above that you can hang on the wall. This will reflect the French style and will certainly be a unique alternative compared to many other design options you have. Of course, if you don?t like that particular idea then you can go with different designs that will give you the kitchen of your dreams.

You could look up kitchen designs on French websites to see what is in style today and what the French are using to decorate their homes and kitchens. You can find special painting techniques and the like that will influence you to come up with a unique French design all your own to use in your kitchen. Just make sure that while you are designing your kitchen you make it elegant enough to complement your Waterford crystals. But, if you don?t have any Waterford crystals you can decide to buy some since they are a great investment or else you may design your kitchen in a more laid back fashion.

Kitchen Design Ideas – Free Online Kitchen Designs & Photos

View a wide range of free kitchen design pictures/photos online. See how different materials like wood and stainless work together. It’s a terrific way to get inspiration and help define the kitchen design you’re after. We’ve tried to cover many of the design approaches that can be taken including modern kitchens, country kitchens, medieval kitchens, French, Tuscan and contemporary.

This kitchen design illustrates the reflective qualities of glass and stainless steel in a country kitchen. The use of wood for the kitchen island countertop and hardwood on the floor introduces an element of warmth to the space. A country feeling is achieved with beadboard cabinetry and ‘cup’ drawer pulls. View more free French country kitchen design pictures.

The vivid splashes of blue and orange on the walls and furniture have been artfully balanced with a warm medium wood tone in this kitchen design. A high-gloss countertop adds texture, yet remains grounded because of its black color. Additional texture has been created with multiple wood tones in the floor. Because of the way the floor lays, it feels as if you are being drawn into the eating area. This is a warm, vibrant and welcoming kitchen!

The soft sheen of stainless steel appliances and the light wood tone of the cabinetry give this kitchen design an airy, spacious feel. It is uncomplicated and uncluttered. Judging by the number of refrigerators, cooktops, ovens and microwaves, this kitchen needs to accommodate multiple users and facilitate the creation of many meals. The design chosen for the space certainly suits those requirements.

In this free kitchen design, in addition to the ample storage and work space the cabinetry layout provides, the center island is large enough to provide even more space for work, storage and eating. It is great to have room for family and friends in the kitchen. You can continue visiting while meals are being prepared. The lighting in this kitchen has been well thought out. Ambient lighting is provided by the recessed fixtures in the ceiling and there are three height-adjustable lights over the island which can operate as task lights.

Small does not have to mean boring! This online kitchen design photo reveals the dramatic use of a bold color on a simple cabinet style. See how the red pops against the white background. The placement of the appliances and the corner sink are a practical use of space. The design allows for work areas between the cooktop and the sink and between the refrigerator and the sink. The abundance of horizontal lines in this contemporary kitchen design create a sense of movement and activity. To keep this kitchen from appearing too busy, the designer applied stainless steel to the cabinets surrounding the appliances. Notice how the ceiling height in the cooking and food prep area is different from the rest of the kitchen. It helps to create a zone separate from the counter eating area. The lighting in that zone is intensified with the use of many recessed fixtures, as well as under cabinet lighting.
