To install wall-mounted cabinets, start by determining their positions and drawing a level horizontal line on the wall where the bottom of each cabinet will be located. Double-check your layout by lightly penciling the cabinets’ dimensions and placement on the wall.

Align the top edge of a temporary 1-by-3 support rail with the line for the bottom edge of the cabinets and drive three or four 2-inch screws through it into the wall studs.

Drill pilot holes through the sturdy part of the cabinet back or its support rail into wall studs. Screw the cabinet to the wall using two screws that are long enough to penetrate the studs by at least 1 1/2 inches.

When installing new cabinets, plan to do the job after completion of rough wiring and plumbing but before the finish flooring has been installed. By installing the flooring after cabinet installation, you won’t use more flooring than needed and the new floors are less prone to construction damage.

Unpack your cabinets and make sure all components are on hand. If your cabinets arrive disassembled, follow the manufacturer’s instructions for assembly. Wait until after cabinet installation to add drawers, doors, and shelves. If you remove any parts, be sure to label them so you can return them to their proper places.

The wall that backs cabinets should be level, smooth, and clean. To check it for flatness, place a long straightedge against it. Mark any bumps or voids so that, during installation, you can adjust for them.

When moving them around, you will discover that upper cabinets are heavy–just imagine their weight when they’re loaded with dinnerware and food. For this reason, it is imperative that they be fastened very securely to the wall stud framing behind the wall’s surface material. And the screws you use must go through a strong part of the cabinet such as a support rail that runs along the cabinet back. Every cabinet should be secured by at least three screws which penetrate the wall framing by at least 1 1/2 inches. For cabinet installation techniques, see How to Install Kitchen Cabinets.

How to Organize Your Wardrobe

1.Begin by making a list of outfits. Choose two or three colors that mix and match. Spend a few days combining different tops with different pants or skirts. Keep the list for quick reference.

2.Make sure you have at least 2 or more hours to devote to cleaning.Closets It’s a lengthy process, but it is very rewarding!

3.Empty out your closet and dresser drawers completely. Wardrobe Lie items down on the bed or some flat surface (the floor; but make sure it is cleaned first) for easier sorting.

4.Label three boxes with a permanent marker: “Charity”, “Throw Away” and “Sew/Repair”.

5.Toss into the “Throw Away” box anything that is severely stained or otherwise ruined beyond repair.Wardrobes

6.Ask yourself: Will I ever wear this? Does it even fit me? Have I worn it in the past year?

7.If the answer to the questions above are no, place the items that either don’t fit or you never wear into the “Charity” box. These have to still be wearable, so no horrible stains or rips/tears.

8.Place any items into the “Sew/Repair” box only if you actually intend on getting them repaired in a reasonable amount of time. Otherwise, toss them into the “Throw Away” box.

9.Seal the “Charity” box with duct tape. Wardrobes & ClosetsThis ensures that you are not tempted to re-open it and change your mind. Be sure and promptly take the “Charity” box to the local charity or call the charity for pickup (if available). You don’t want a box full of clothes that someone else could use just cluttering up your house!

10.Create outfits from whatever clothes that remain. Be sure to include any accessories you’ll use. [This will be easier when you have fewer clothes and can see what you have to work with.]

11.Make a note of any pieces that are missing (for example, a blouse to go with a blazer and slacks) in a notebook. wardrobes Save this list for when you have time to go clothes shopping. You could even snip a very small swatch of the fabric from a hidden hem and attach it in the notebook to make matching items easier.

12.Hang up, fold and put away whatever items remain, and put them in neatly!

13.Later on, take pictures of you wearing the items that you have left in your wardrobe as it will help you save time when choosing what to wear.

Painting Kitchen Cabinets in a Caribbean Decor

1. Step 1

   Choose the Caribbean color scheme that pleases you for your kitchen decor. A deep ocean blue for the cabinets and a lighter shade of blue for the doors creates a calm, cool kitchen. Combine sea foam green for the doors and deep coral for the cabinets for a bolder statement. Purchase paint and supplies from your local home improvement store. Select a clean area where you can spread out the doors and drawer fronts, either on a tarp or a covered table.

2. Step 2

   Remove the doors and drawer fronts from the cabinets; numbering the backs in sequence will help you when it’s time to reinstall the doors to their proper location. Remove all of the hardware from the cabinets, doors and drawer fronts. Organize the hardware so that you know which knob or handle goes where when it’s time to replace them. You might also consider purchasing new hardware for your Caribbean kitchen decor. Your local home improvement store will have a selection, or you could order cabinet hardware online. You have predrilled holes already in your cabinet doors and drawers, so purchase hardware that will fit the same way as your old knobs and handles.

3. Step 3

   Sand the cabinets, doors and drawer fronts lightly with a medium grade sandpaper. Your goal is to rough up the old finish enough to accept the new paint. Sand the back and the front of the doors. Clean the sanding residue with a damp cloth, careful to remove all of the debris.

4. Step 4

   Prime all of your surfaces and let it dry. Lightly sand the primed surfaces according to the directions on your brand of primer. This step may not be necessary, so read the directions.

5. Step 5

   Apply a light coat of your chosen paint color to the surfaces. Let it dry and apply a second coat as needed.

6. Step 6

   Reattach the doors and drawer fronts to the kitchen cabinets. Reattach the hardware.
