IMPORTANT FAUCET INSTALLATION NOTICE

IMPORTANT FAUCET INSTALLATION NOTICE

Before using a newly installed faucet, remove the aerator, if applicable. Turn on the water to the faucet and let it flow for 15 seconds. This flushes out sediment in the water line, preventing it from becoming lodged in the faucet valves, which can affect performance and cause damage to the faucet.

FLUSHING WATER LINES
1. Place a towel at the base of the faucet and remove the faucet aerator. If using pliers, place a rag around the aerator to protect the finish.
2. Turn on the cold and hot water, letting the faucet run for 10-15 seconds.
3. Rinse out the aerator, carefully noting the placement of washers inside. Replace the aerator and check water flow. If there is no improvement, continue to Step 4.
4. Close the shut-off valves or turn off your home’s water main, twisting the valves clockwise as far as possible.
5. Turn on the hot and cold faucet taps to release any pressure and excess water. Turn off.
6. With a wrench, remove water lines underneath the faucet, placing the ends in a bucket.
7. Open the shut-off valve or water main and let water flow into the bucket for 15 seconds.
8. Close the shut-off valve or main supply, then reattach the water lines to the faucet.
9. Reopen the valves to restore water to the faucet and check for leaks. Read the rest of this entry »

Modern Kitchen Design Ideas

Overhead kitchen light fixtures are a good choice to illuminate the room a lot to allow for proper brightness. However, the design of the floor is very important when trying to create a modern kitchen. The textures and colors chosen will make a statement about the kitchen and tie everything together. Simple hardwood floors or one color tiles are chosen to keep with the simple and sleek feel of modern design. When choosing modern kitchen paint colors, lighting fixtures is another pieces that should be taken into consideration. Simple hanging pendant lighting is also an option that will add to the modern design while also adding brightness to the room. The design of the furniture should also have simplistic lines and match the lines and décor of the rest of the room.

Common to have little curves in the furniture. The most popular modern style furniture has clean straight lines that match the feel of the kitchen cabinet design, refrigerator and countertops. These simplistic lines will add to the functionality of the space while allowing for an area to sit and enjoy a meal. When designing a modern style kitchen there are many aspects to take into consideration to get the correct image and feel. Sticking to monochromatic color tones such as stainless steel metals or dark black tones will create a sleek design. In addition to the simple color tones, having strong clean lines in the kitchen backsplash tiles, furniture, countertops, and refrigerator will create a modern design.

Kitchen, Meet Dining Room

posted by Kitchen & Bathroom Designer

Old houses have lots of appeal, but frequently, their interior spaces could do with a contemporary revision. For this home in Seattle, architect Nicole Starnes Taylor needed to unite the disconnected kitchen and dining room to make the kitchen the heart of the house. Awkwardly placed doors and circulation paths wasted 75% of the potentially useful space in the kitchen and dining room area; reclaiming unused space was a viable solution and also more cost-effective than a kitchen addition. The existing kitchen needed work: The cabinets were too close to the countertops, lighting was poor, and windows were badly located. In the dining room, the only logical place for a table placed the table in a circulation path through the room. Also, the windows were badly placed. By knocking down an unused chimney between the kitchen and dining room and also removing a number of doors, Taylor connected the rooms visually and physically. The removal of a mudroom off the kitchen allowed the installation of French doors that, along with a new window over the sink, bring in plenty of natural light. A peninsula between the rooms acts as a perch space and permits circulation between the two rooms.

Intricate Beauty

Brand new custom kitchen designs can be very costly. Fortunately, with a little creativity it is simple to recreate your favorite kitchen designs on a budget. The key to recreating those fabulous dream kitchen ideas without draining your wallet is identifying those key design elements that will have the most impact on the overall design, and then focus your funds there. Our favorite way to revamp an outdated space is with fresh new kitchen paint colors. This is the single diy project that can have the most overall impact on a kitchen for the least amount of money. Think bold and vibrant when selecting paint, and dare to use those most popular colors for 2014 that may look out of place in other areas of your home designs. Another great way to give a custom look is by incorporating fabulous new kitchen tile backsplash. These cheap DIY kitchen decorations will give the room an instant facelift without spending an arm and a leg on major structural redo’s like new cabinetry.

A key element to consider when undertaking a new kitchen makeover is flooring. The kitchen floor is one of the most highly trafficked areas of the home and, as such, should be both durable and safe to walk on. A slippery floor material such as slick tiles or highly glossed woods can often lead to accidents while cooking and should therefore be avoided. When selecting the best kitchen flooring also keep in mind the heavy maintenance it will surely undergo. Do not select a material that cannot withstand frequent washings with heavy duty soaps. Our favorite designer products for kitchen floors are beautiful natural woods or nonslip tiled materials. Both are available in a variety of awesome colors and coordinated with any 2014 kitchen designs style for a gorgeous rich look. Finishing details such as kitchen flooring are vital to achieving that professionally designed look, so choose wisely.

Clever Kitchen Ideas Tuck Away the Toaster

posted by Kitchen & Bathroom Designer

Storage space was limited in this compact modern kitchen, so San Francisco-based KBC-Design  invented some creative storage options to accommodate everyday appliances and to reduce visual clutter. Here, above a Sub-Zero refrigerator drawer and a maple butcher-block prep surface, a secret solid-paneled door reveals a slide-out plywood platform that supports a toaster and a coffeemaker.

Hidden, but accessible. A magnetic touch latch opens the bright red door, providing access to the toaster and the coffeemaker. Hiding these appliances not only cleans up the look of the kitchen, but it also increases prep space on the butcher-block countertop.

Clever Kitchen Ideas — Grab Bar for Accessibility

posted by Kitchen & Bathroom Designer

The owners of this large, open loft see the kitchen as the heart of their home. Randy, the husband, uses a wheelchair much of the time, so accessibility is a prominent feature of the space’s design. To make the kitchen safe and easy to use, a crew from Thomas Jacobson Construction integrated an anodized steel grab bar into the 1-1⁄2-in.-thick island top. The bar’s support tabs were let into and screwed to the first layer of 3⁄4-in.. The second layer, with matching recesses to accommodate the tabs, was then attached.

The bar was set 1-1⁄2 in. from the top’s edge and provides Randy with a comfortable grip. The bar allows Randy to pull himself around the working side of the island, which is particularly useful when one hand is full.

Loft living. The open kitchen in this loft sits adjacent to the living room. Designed for entertaining and for its passionate cooks, the kitchen features an island top that was created with wheelchair accessibility in mind.

Timeless Transitions

Timeless Transitions

The look of the kitchen cabinetry continues into the adjoining butler’s pantry, which serves as a transition space for the formal dining room. Counter space here is ideal for serving a meal or as a spot for additional helpers during meal prep. There’s just enough room in the narrow space for a bistro table, where two can enjoy coffee and a snack.
