Modern Kitchen Design Ideas

Overhead kitchen light fixtures are a good choice to illuminate the room a lot to allow for proper brightness. However, the design of the floor is very important when trying to create a modern kitchen. The textures and colors chosen will make a statement about the kitchen and tie everything together. Simple hardwood floors or one color tiles are chosen to keep with the simple and sleek feel of modern design. When choosing modern kitchen paint colors, lighting fixtures is another pieces that should be taken into consideration. Simple hanging pendant lighting is also an option that will add to the modern design while also adding brightness to the room. The design of the furniture should also have simplistic lines and match the lines and décor of the rest of the room.

Common to have little curves in the furniture. The most popular modern style furniture has clean straight lines that match the feel of the kitchen cabinet design, refrigerator and countertops. These simplistic lines will add to the functionality of the space while allowing for an area to sit and enjoy a meal. When designing a modern style kitchen there are many aspects to take into consideration to get the correct image and feel. Sticking to monochromatic color tones such as stainless steel metals or dark black tones will create a sleek design. In addition to the simple color tones, having strong clean lines in the kitchen backsplash tiles, furniture, countertops, and refrigerator will create a modern design.

Clever Kitchen Ideas Tuck Away the Toaster

posted by Kitchen & Bathroom Designer

Storage space was limited in this compact modern kitchen, so San Francisco-based KBC-Design  invented some creative storage options to accommodate everyday appliances and to reduce visual clutter. Here, above a Sub-Zero refrigerator drawer and a maple butcher-block prep surface, a secret solid-paneled door reveals a slide-out plywood platform that supports a toaster and a coffeemaker.

Hidden, but accessible. A magnetic touch latch opens the bright red door, providing access to the toaster and the coffeemaker. Hiding these appliances not only cleans up the look of the kitchen, but it also increases prep space on the butcher-block countertop.

Clever Kitchen Ideas — Grab Bar for Accessibility

posted by Kitchen & Bathroom Designer

The owners of this large, open loft see the kitchen as the heart of their home. Randy, the husband, uses a wheelchair much of the time, so accessibility is a prominent feature of the space’s design. To make the kitchen safe and easy to use, a crew from Thomas Jacobson Construction integrated an anodized steel grab bar into the 1-1⁄2-in.-thick island top. The bar’s support tabs were let into and screwed to the first layer of 3⁄4-in.. The second layer, with matching recesses to accommodate the tabs, was then attached.

The bar was set 1-1⁄2 in. from the top’s edge and provides Randy with a comfortable grip. The bar allows Randy to pull himself around the working side of the island, which is particularly useful when one hand is full.

Starting Fresh With Custom Cabinets

Once the decision has been made to install new cabinets, there are other choices ahead. Are custom cabinets required or will stock cabinets fit the bill? Custom cabinets are built to exact specifications and offer endless design possibilities. This option requires the longest lead time and is the most expensive route, but it also allows you to include cool hidden conveniences like this built-in refrigerator, cleverly disguised as part of the cabinetry. Apartment Kitchen

An editor’s tiny apartment still manages big style. The original outmoded cabinetry is turned modern: The cabinet doors were removed and then painted white. The backs of the shelves were painted the same blue as the walls. Removing the doors made the kitchen feel more open. Food is stored in the white canisters on the shelves and the large storage boxes above hold platters and holiday decorations.

To achieve a feeling of openness, the owner of this Chicago townhouse washed the kitchen in a clean, pale palette.

Stoveside Organizer

Whether you use one crock or several, it’s wise to have essential tools in arm’s reach when you’re at the stove. Martha keeps ladles, whisks, pastry brushes, wooden spoons, and flexible spatulas in separate containers.

Rolling Cart

A cart provides storage where you need it. Martha usually parks this stainless steel one, with tools for cooking, by her range. A small freestanding island on wheels can serve the same purpose and is especially useful in a tight kitchen; it provides a work surface and a casual sideboard. “By adding a custom-cut marble top, a rolling cart can also be used as a bar when entertaining,” Martha says.

Also on the rolling cart: Martha’s mise en place — ramekins of various salts and often-used spices. A pinch is easier to gauge with fingers or a spoon than it is with a shaker.

Secured a plinth at the feet of the kitchen cabinets. The type of attachment can vary from model to model. Do you have a kitchen, which is around the corner, you can connect the abutting footer parts with a corner joint with each other.

Measure out how much baseboard you need

You can calculate the length of the baseboard for your kitchen. Just add the length of the wall cabinets together. If your kitchen cabinets own in the room, you have to add the baseboard.

1. for the sides and the back of the cabinets
Of course it is also possible to measure the length of the baseboard. So you can be sure that you have not miscalculated and accidentally buy too little plinth.
