Showhouse kitchens like this one can be the ideal place to be daring while incorporating proven design ideas. Part of a 26-room 1914 English Tudor, this fully-modernized kitchen is made to fit the Old-World style of its home.A striking large paneled canopy, accentuated with rope molding, frames the cooking center where the original fireplace once stood. The 48' wide gas range is surrounded by convenient work space on both sides. Storage abounds - from the wall cabinets surrounding the canopy to a tall cabinet tucked near the entryway. There's even a butler's pantry for additional storage.

Pale yellow paint is accented by a creamy tone on the cabinets. Blue slate counters provide a stunning contrast. Directly in front of the range stands an island designed to resemble a moveable work table. It includes an undermount sink, classic faucet and a dishwasher with drawer storage on each side. Knotty pine with a medium brown stain and heavy blue patina give the work center its mossy, aged look.

A passage way from the kitchen to the butler's pantry, with cabinets that match the island, was enlarged to bring the two spaces together, yet retain an open feeling.
